Male Hair Advice: How to Prevent a Hat Head

by Sunday, March 20, 2022

Whether for protection or for a stylish look, different types of hats are used by men and have been a wardrobe staple for many. However, the problem with wearing a hat is most often, once removed, your hair takes the shape of your hat! To prevent this, I’ve come up with some male hair advice that could be useful for hat-wearing men like me and you.

Hats are undoubtedly fashionable but at some point, say when you enter a friend’s house, you have got to take it off. And, what happens when you remove your hat? Ding, ding, ding! You get a hat head! Having a hat head can ruin your style as it is unattractive to look at.

1. Check Your Hat’s Size

Just like your pants, your hat must have a good fit. When your hat is too small for your head, it will result in a hat head. Normally, there should be an ample space between the band of your hat and your head where you can fit a finger.

2. Consider Light Materials

In choosing a hat, you should consider the materials used. Wool hats have heavier fabrics, causing to weigh down your hat in your head, thus resulting in a hat head. Light materials such as cotton or fleece would be ideal.

3. Never on a Damp Hair

Before wearing a hat, make sure that your hair is already dry. If you wear a hat with a damp hair, your hair will take the shape of your hat as it dries.

4. Use Frizz Controlling Hairspray

If you have a high amount of static electricity on your hair, you can keep it from having a hat head by rubbing a dryer sheet inside your hat. In addition, you can also use a frizz controlling hairspray such as John Frieda’s Frizz Ease before putting on your hat.

5. Rejuvenate Hair

When you remove your hat, freshen your hair up by shaking your hair loose. Also, you can apply hair gel, pomade, or any other like-formulated shampoo to rejuvenate your hair.
